A large handmade serving bowl from the students’ kitchen at Chanteduc, the farmhouse of Patricia and Walter Wells. Patricia explains, "It’s Japanese, huge, heavy and beautiful. It’s handmade and vintage." Generous in scale and reassuringly weighty, it reflects the convivial rhythm of her cooking school, where feeding a crowd comes naturally.
Wheel-thrown with a strong foot and a softly rolled rim, it shows warm sand tones animated by a deep blue drip at the lip, a subtle signature of the potter’s hand. The glaze is smooth with natural speckling and a gentle sheen that speaks of careful use. Substantial walls and real depth make it dependable in service. Pile in a salade composée, a heap of market citrus, or set it at the table for a family-style pasta. Between meals it sits handsomely on the kitchen island, and it also makes a characterful planter for herbs on a terrace. A well-loved, purposeful piece with clear provenance from Patricia’s Paris and Provence life, ready to anchor generous gatherings with friends and family.
