Large Limoges Porcelain Wash Pitcher and Basin, Early 20th Century - 14¼"

This large French wash pitcher and basin, produced by Union Céramique of Limoges, date to the early 20th century and embody the elegance of the Louis XV Revival style. Crafted in luminous hard-paste Limoges porcelain, the matching set features a richly modeled pitcher with a ruffled rim, scrolling handle, and delicate rocaille relief, paired with a broad basin whose scalloped rim echoes the same flowing ornament. The underside is stamped with the UC Limoges (Union Céramique) mark, used during the first half of the 20th century. The brilliant white glaze beautifully highlights the sculptural relief, and the set remains in very good vintage condition, with only minor wear to the resting points and no visible chips or cracks. 

Before indoor plumbing became commonplace, porcelain ewer-and-basin sets such as this were essential fixtures of the bedroom or dressing room, serving the daily rituals of washing and grooming. Produced in Limoges, France's renowned center of hard-paste porcelain since the eighteenth century, this example combines practical function with refined craftsmanship. The monochrome white glaze allows the graceful relief decoration to take center stage, lending the exuberant Rococo design a freshness and restraint that feel clean and timeless. 

Today, the set makes a striking decorative statement on a bathroom or mudroom console.
