This large Louis Philippe mirror dates to the mid-19th century and is an exceptional find. The wooden frame is painted in red ocher and gold, with areas of gentle wear. One of the most striking features is the twisted detailing along the frame, a rare and refined variation of the classic barley twist.
This spiral motif traces its origins to Solomonic columns found in important ecclesiastical architecture, notably in Baroque churches across Italy and Spain. It later appeared in fine furniture across Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, symbolising movement and grandeur. In this mirror, it adds sculptural depth and visual rhythm.
The mirror retains its original mercury glass, split into two vertical panes due to the limitations of glassmaking at the time. The seam is a testament to its authenticity and scale. Perfect for anchoring a grand entry, salon or gallery wall, this piece brings both history and presence to any interior.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
