A vintage French champagne bowl bearing the G.H. Mumm & Cie mark, formed as a generous hemispherical vessel on a stepped socle foot in softly lustrous pewter. The everted rim and turned rings at the base give it the restrained elegance of classic hotel silver, while the front is emblazoned with the Champagne G.H. Mumm inscription, Reims, France. Dating from the mid 20th century, France, and scaled to accommodate multiple bottles on ice.
Founded in 1827 in Reims by the Mumm family, the house later took the name G.H. Mumm from Georges Hermann Mumm and became renowned for its Cordon Rouge cuvée introduced in 1876, distinguished by a red sash inspired by the Légion d’honneur. Branded coolers of this type were supplied to cafés, hôtels, and brasseries as practical advertising, their classical lines reflecting the enduring brasserie aesthetic. Pewter’s excellent thermal retention and resistance to corrosion made it a favored material for service pièces, aligning function with French savoir-faire.
Perfect for entertaining, this wine cooler anchors a bar or sideboard filled with ice and several bottles, or stands as a handsome centerpiece with citrus, hydrangeas, or seasonal greens. It pairs well with cut crystal and linen for formal settings, yet looks equally at ease on a rustic farm table. A considered gift for a Champagne enthusiast, it adds authentic brasserie character to contemporary and traditional interiors alike.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
