Charming substantial mid 20th century French terracotta garden planter in the shape of a seated frog. The figure is modeled with rounded, generous proportions, prominent eyes, and a wide mouth with a hint of a smile, lending it a calm and expressive presence. Small incised flowers decorate the belly, adding a simple decorative detail, while the opening at the back forms the planting cavity. The piece is marked with the number 6202 on the back.
The surface shows a beautiful natural outdoor patina with warm terracotta tones, darker weathering, and traces of moss from long garden exposure. A drainage hole is present underneath, making it suitable for planting. The weathered surface and earthy coloration give the piece strong garden character and an appealing rustic presence.
Equally at home in a garden or interior, it can anchor a courtyard vignette beside a fountain, sit on a low plinth at an entry, or bring a playful counterpoint to a conservatory shelf alongside glazed planters.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
