Large Oil on Canvas, Farmhouse in the Alpilles, Signed and Dated 1980 - 21¾" x 26½"

This French oil on canvas, titled Mas des Alpilles (Farmhouse in the Alpilles), is signed and dated 1980. The composition depicts a cluster of Provençal buildings set beneath the pale limestone ridges of the Alpilles, painted with broad, textured brushwork and areas of impasto that give the landscape a lively, tactile quality. The palette is especially appealing: warm ochres, terracotta, dusty pinks and olive greens are balanced by cooler grays and soft blues in the distant hills and sky, creating an earthy yet luminous and harmonious scene. The canvas is mounted onto a simple white-painted backing board rather than set into a conventional frame, giving it a light, modern presentation. It could easily be removed and reframed if a different look were preferred.

The Alpilles, with their pale rocky ridges, olive groves and scattered mas, form one of Provence’s most picturesque landscapes and have long attracted artists drawn to the region’s distinctive light and color.
