A generous antique French terracotta tian bowl from Provence, dating to the late 19th century, of the kind that once sat at the heart of a working farmhouse kitchen. Hand-thrown in warm, ruddy terracotta, it is finished inside with a pale celadon green glaze of quiet luminosity. Over time, the glaze has developed a fine, intricate network of crazing across its surface, a testament to a long and useful life. The contrast between the raw, unglazed exterior and the softly glowing interior is particularly pleasing.
The condition is honest and authentic. Small losses to the glaze along the rim and scattered marks on the exterior deepen its character, speaking to generations of use. Nicely proportioned, with a generous open form and a satisfying weight.
Displayed at the centre of a wooden farmhouse table or on a stone kitchen counter, filled with seasonal fruit, fresh eggs, or garden herbs, this bowl becomes an immediate focal point. It sits equally well in a Provençal farmhouse, a city kitchen, or any interior that values authenticity and quiet beauty.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
