Produced by one of France's most renowned stoneware manufactories, based in Burgundy, it reflects the robust craftsmanship and enduring practicality that made Digoin pottery a staple of French kitchens for generations.
The broad, gently curving body is fitted with two small integrated handles, giving the piece a pleasingly balanced silhouette that is both practical and sculptural.
The deep glossy glaze is ranges from warm chestnut to dark cocoa tones depending on the light. Its lustrous surface highlights the simple elegance of the form while reflecting the robust character of traditional French culinary pottery. The unglazed base bears the impressed Grès de Digoin mark.
Originally intended for oven-to-table use, the dish bears a discreet crack acquired during its working life and is now best suited for decorative purposes. It brings warmth and depth to a kitchen interior, where its glossy brown glaze pairs beautifully with copper cookware, wooden boards, confit pots, and other rustic French wares. It also looks wonderful filled with bright citrus fruits, their vibrant colours contrasting beautifully with the deep chocolate glaze.
