A large 1960s/70s French floor lamp influenced by the Space Age featuring a large white opaline glass globe which softly diffuses the light inside. Its stand features two swooping tube metal supports with a gold finish, clamped in the center and resting on a circular base. The dark-painted chrome ring, center piece, and base mimic a rich dark mahogany faux-bois finish. Possibly influenced by a Spanish design.
The Space Age is the name given to the period during which the space race was launched, starting in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik. This fever for the conquest of space also reached design, and in the 1960s and 1970s, a decorating model was developed based on an idyllic vision of the future, and everything to do with spaceships, new technologies and innovative materials.
