This large French 18-light chandelier, dating from the early 20th century, is constructed in gilt bronze and richly hung with faceted glass drops, beads, and pendants. Its unusually elaborate structure is arranged in successive levels: the candle arms are distributed across two tiers, while the upper section rises through two further crowns of opulent glass ornament. The result is a tall, layered silhouette with considerable movement and sparkle. The chandelier retains an older electrification scheme, with only six of the arms wired while the others are fitted with wax candles. One glass candle cup is broken, without significantly detracting from the overall dazzling decorative effect.
Its generous scale and cascading glasswork give the chandelier a distinctly glamorous presence, while the tiered construction keeps the composition visually balanced despite its richness. In a contemporary interior, it brings ceremony, sparkle, and an unmistakable sense of Old World grandeur, with the numerous arms and two-part upper crown making this example particularly distinctive.
