Graceful and quietly luminous, this Louis XVI neoclassical mirror features a rectangular giltwood frame topped by a projecting cornice with carved molding and an inner border defined by a row of small dentils. The gold leaf has mellowed to a warm, earthy tone, complemented by traces of old green paint along the sides that add subtle depth to the surface. Retaining its original mercury plate, the mirror shows poetic speckling, worn patches, and age marks that soften reflections and lend an atmospheric quality. The giltwood frame displays timeworn gilding with nicks and small losses to the gesso, its rich, harmonious patina giving the piece an unmistakable antique presence.
Dating to the late 18th century, this mirror reflects the Louis XVI love of clean, structured lines, a timeless vocabulary that pairs effortlessly with modern interiors. Style it above a console in an entry, over a fireplace, or in a powder room where its classical proportions and softly aged glass will bring light, character, and a sense of history to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
