This delightfully primitive pot is from Garos et Bouillon in South West France. It dates from the eighteenth-century, quite possibly earlier. The pattern was spiked with the feather of a goose and is a way that the potter signed their work. It has a timeworn brown patina and handles that are one sided, suggesting that it was used for cooking - the pot could be safely placed on coals without burning one's hands.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
