This late 19th-century adjustable French piano stool brings a charming note of the music room to an interior. Crafted in solid walnut with a rich, mellow patina, it features a round seat upholstered in textured needlepoint, worked in warm ochre scrolls and soft floral sprigs, and finished with tidy nailhead trim. The turned legs and connecting stretchers give the piece a graceful, well-balanced stance, while the central screw column allows the seat to rise or lower as needed. The walnut’s deep, handsome color and the softly worn textile create a pleasing contrast between rustic materials and refined craftsmanship, an appealing combination that suits today’s eclectic interiors beautifully.
The seat turns freely, but the height changes only when a gentle downward pressure is applied, which engages the mechanism and allows the stool to rise or lower as needed. Petite and versatile, it is ideal at a vanity, piano, or writing desk, and also serves as a small accent seat or an occasional side table when topped with a tray.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
