A petite late 19th century domestic holy water font in moulded terracotta, finished in a deep chestnut to umber glaze. The arched backplate is topped with a scalloped crest and decorated in naïve relief with a Calvary scene, framed by simple vegetal motifs above a conical basin. Pierced for hanging. In good, timeworn condition, with small chips to the crest and bowl rim, light glaze wear to high points, and minor firing irregularities consistent with age. The hand-crafted decoration has a simple folk charm.
Such pieces were traditionally hung near a doorway or bedside for daily blessing. This example reflects rustic village pottery, with its rich, mottled glaze and direct, expressive modelling rooted in popular devotional art. Today, it brings a warm, contemplative note to an entry or quiet corner. Hang it alone or among other ceramics, or use it to hold a small sprig of greenery for a subtle decorative touch.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
