This late 19th-century French cast-iron garden urn features a broad shallow bowl with deep lobed fluting and a bold egg-and-dart rim, set on a waisted socle and tiered base with scrolled corners. Its surface shows mottled russet tones with remnats of old green paint, unified by a varnished patina that protects the iron while preserving its timeworn character.
Drawing on classical forms popular in the Second Empire and Beaux-Arts periods, such urns were prized for their durability and crisp casting. Equally appealing today, this piece can serve as a planter or sculptural accent in garden, porch, or conservatory settings, or indoors as a centerpiece filled with moss, orchids, or topiary. Its aged surface and sculptural form lend depth and character to both traditional and contemporary spaces.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
