A late 19th-century French bedside or small side table in mixed fruitwood marquetry, featuring a gently waisted silhouette raised on slender cabriole legs. The façade is fitted with two small cupboard doors decorated with charming trompe l’oeil panels depicting rows of antique leather-bound books, adding a playful literary character. Above, a narrow pull-out slide with brass ring pulls provides a practical surface for writing or resting a cup. The top is set with a white marble slab with soft grey veining, enclosed by a pierced brass gallery. The sides and lower tier are adorned with geometric wood veneers, showcasing fine craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The piece carries a warm, mellow patina, with light, age-appropriate wear to the brass and a few small losses to the veneers and faux leather bindings; the marble presents two discreet hairline fissures.
Ideal beside a bed or placed between armchairs in a library or sitting room, styled with a small reading lamp, a framed photograph, or a simple bud vase, while the lower shelf can hold a stack of books. The faux bindings lend a note of wit and charm, making the table as decorative as it is practical.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
