A rectangular French wall mirror from the late 19th century with a softly stepped profile features a recent seafoam green patina that frames a timeworn mercury-backed plate with a gentle, sparkling shimmer. The carved wood and gesso frame is adorned with a running foliate frieze, small corner cartouches, and an intricate inner molding, all mellowed by the chalky painted surface. Condition overall is good, with scattered foxing and age spots to the glass, minor chips and abrasions to the extremities, and light surface wear consistent with age.
This versatile piece suits a mantel, an entry console, or the end of a hallway, where it can amplify light and add quiet texture. Its restrained ornament and seafoam hue pair beautifully with limed oak, linen upholstery, and coastal or Gustavian palettes, while also offering a graceful counterpoint to contemporary art and clean-lined case goods. It can be hung vertically for height or horizontally to widen a space, allowing the softly aged glass to bring character and a touch of sparkle without overwhelming the room.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
