This petite Italian side or console table presents a refined silhouette with a single locking drawer beneath a glass-inset top, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The rectangular top is framed by a shallow gallery lip, while the base is formed by two shaped trestle supports with pierced panels, joined by a straight stretcher and ending in gently splayed feet. Beneath the glass lies a personal drawing, added by an early 20th-century owner, depicting delicate flowering sprays and a central butterfly within a pale blue border. The hand-painted scene lends the piece a rare intimacy and quiet poetry, transforming a simple functional table into something uniquely evocative. The brass key operates smoothly, securing the drawer. Condition is good and timeworn, with light surface wear, small nicks along the edges, and minor marks consistent with age and use.
Easy to place and quietly distinctive, this piece suits an entry where the drawer can hold keys and gloves, while the glass top welcomes a small bowl or hat. It also reads beautifully between twin beds as a shared bedside console with a petite lamp, or beside an armchair as an accent table that invites a book and a sprig of flowers. Its modest scale, warm tone, and lyrical artwork make it a charming bridge between antiques and contemporary interiors, from a crisp hallway to a layered sitting room.
