A charming French wrought iron plant stand from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. This three-tiered étagère is both practical and evocative, likely once used in a garden or conservatory. Hand-forged in slender iron, it is made with an open grid design across each tier, supported by a well-balanced frame with simple diagonal bracing. The construction is light in appearance yet solid and stable, best suited to small pots and everyday items rather than heavy loads.
The surface shows a beautifully aged patina, with warm rust tones and traces of its original green paint still visible in places. The folding mechanism is no longer functional and the piece now stands fixed.
Well proportioned and easy to place, it works just as well outdoors as it does inside. It can be used for terracotta pots and trailing plants, but also makes a practical shoe rack in a mudroom, a pantry shelf for storing produce or jars, or even a display stand in a kitchen or hallway. Simple and versatile, it adds an easy note of French country character wherever it is placed.
