This superb vintage lidded asparagus basket was made by the Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro (1846-1905) atelier in Portugal. The white asparagus spears with purple tips are tied in a bunch - one is pulled away from the bunch to make the handle. A superb piece that will add a fun accent to a collection of Majolica. It is stamped underneath.
Light wear.
