This large indoor planter dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, presents a long, elegant profile in oak with a zinc-lined trough. The warm medium-brown timber shows a mellow patina with reed-molded sides, and bobbin-turned legs joined by matching stretchers. The galvanized interior includes a fixed divider and displays a softly mottled, timeworn surface consistent with age and use, while the woodwork remains in very good condition with light marks. Such planters were traditionally made for conservatories and winter gardens, the zinc liner protecting the casework while accommodating seasonal displays of greenery.
Its elegant length and shallow depth allow it to slip effortlessly behind a sofa, along a window wall, or in an entry beneath a mirror. It can be planted with potted herbs, orchids, or trailing ivy, or thoughtfully repurposed as an imaginative bookcase. The rhythm of the turned legs, paired with the subtle industrial character of the zinc liner, creates a grounded, collected atmosphere. Equally at ease in a country house or a city interior, it brings texture, warmth, and a subtle conservatory heritage to the room.
