This magnificent Louis XV two-drawer walnut commode from Nimes is a stunning piece of furniture. It features all original bronze rocaille drop handles and decorations. Note the pretty escutcheons decorated with a woman's face around the keyholes. The commode is made of walnut and there are no signs of wormholes.
The base is sculpted and the drawers have three finely carved cartouches with rocaille and acanthus leaves. The sides of the commode are curved, molded, and panelled, adding to its elegance. The lower front apron crosspiece is scalloped with open fretwork and asymmetrical rocaille decoration, while the lower side crosspieces also feature scalloped open fretwork with rocaille decoration. The legs of the commode rest on four elegant curbed cabriole "escargot" snail feet and are sculpted with acanthus leaves.
The commode itself is in exceptional condition, with no scratches or alterations. It is sold with a certificate of authenticity to guarantee its genuineness and does not come with keys. Placed in an entryway, living room, dining room or master bedroom, this lovely chest of drawers would create the ultimate French look, adding character, charm, and a sense of history to the room.
