A charming wall console dating to the Louis XV period, mid-18th century. Hand-carved in wood, the demi-lune form features a molded shelf above a richly sculpted body adorned with rocaille scrolls and a central shell motif. The surface retains a beautifully aged painted finish in warm earthy tones. Condition is consistent with age and long use, with wear to the painted surface, an age-related crack to the carved body, separation between the top shelf and body due to natural movement of the wood over time, and evidence of historic woodworm that add to its period charm. The reverse displays age-related deterioration and losses to the wood. While fitted with later mounting hardware, care should be taken when mounting.
Wall brackets of this type were used to display treasured objects such as devotional figures, porcelain, clocks, or small sculptures. Their sculptural forms brought movement and ornament to interiors while creating an elegant focal point for cherished possessions. Rich in character and patina, this console adds architectural interest to an entry hall, stairwell, powder room, or living space. It provides an ideal perch for a small bust, candlestick, or vase, while its weathered surface and centuries-old craftsmanship bring depth, warmth, and authenticity to any setting.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
