A lovely early 19th-century painted side table in the provincial Louis XV taste, with wonderfully slender and graceful cabriole legs terminating in delicate scroll feet, giving the piece an airy, almost weightless silhouette. The table retains its original robin’s egg blue painted surface, now beautifully worn and distressed through age and use, revealing traces of the wood beneath and creating a richly textured patina throughout. The shaped apron adds further movement to the design, while the single side drawer on one short side opens to reveal an unusual compartmentalized interior.
The divided drawer suggests a lady's work table or writing side table, intended to organize sewing notions, correspondence, and small personal effects. The lock is missing, and the long, slender legs retain a slight movement entirely characteristic of the table’s light, elegant construction and age, while remaining stable for everyday decorative use.
Its narrow proportions and graceful lines make it especially easy to place: beside a chair, between windows, or in a bedroom corner. The eye-catching color feels equally at home in relaxed French country interiors and more layered, sophisticated spaces, where its worn surface and unusual hue bring softness, character, and a quietly playful note.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
