This petite early 20th-century earthenware grease pot from southwest France features a rounded belly, short waisted neck, and slightly everted lip, finished in a warm, glossy brown glaze that pools to darker chestnut with scattered firing specks. The interior carries a lighter ocher glaze, and the vessel sits on a narrow ring foot; without handles, it presents a simple, seamless form. Its timeworn condition, with small rim chips, surface scuffs, and localized glaze losses, reflects its age and use.
Rural workshops across southwest France produced such vessels for everyday food storage, and compact jars like this were used to hold cooking fat, jams, honey, or other condiments, their wide mouths allowing easy access and simple sealing
This modest piece with a gorgeous glaze styles beautifully on open shelving, a countertop, or a narrow console, where its warm tone and rustic patina lend gentle depth. Use it as a utensil holder, a small vase, or as a characterful accent grouped with other country ceramics to anchor a kitchen or dining space.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
