This tall giltwood mirror dates to the late nineteenth century and carries the poetic exuberance of French decorative carving from that period. The frame is shaped with softly rounded shoulders and crowned by an animated openwork crest of grapevines, scrolling leaves, and clustered fruit. Beneath the crest, the surround is enriched with carved egg and dart, beading, and a gently stepped profile that gives depth and rhythm to the frame. The old silvered plate retains good clarity, showing only scattered foxing and small areas of desilvering that enrich its period character without diminishing its usability.
The gilding has developed a warm patina, with light rubbing along the high points and small age marks that speak to many decades of use rather than detract from the mirror’s grace. Its vertical format and generous scale allow it to serve as both a functional mirror and an architectural element. Placed above a mantel, it heightens the room and catches the shifting daylight; positioned in an entry hall, it creates a welcoming sense of presence; leaned casually on a console, it layers reflections of artwork, candlelight, and furnishings in a way that enriches the atmosphere of the space. The mirror brings a note of elegance, a hint of rustic abundance, and the quiet romance of a finely aged French interior.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
