Magnificent 19th-Century Genoese Painted Wrought-Iron Bed - 82¼" x 62½"

This large and striking Genoese bed, dating from the 19th century, is made from solid wrought iron with a painted finish. The headboard is especially elaborate, rising in a broad fan-shaped composition reminiscent of a peacock’s tail, with dense scrolling ironwork, stylized foliage, and symmetrical arabesques. The footboard is equally distinctive, with its lower section also richly worked rather than left plain, giving the bed an unusually complete decorative treatment. Entirely demountable, it retains a central support rail not visible in the photograph, rolls on four casters, and accommodates a mattress measuring approximately 200 x 150 cm (79 x 59 in.).

The bed is in very good structural condition, with a sturdy frame and no looseness. The wrought-iron decoration is complete, with a beautiful, gently timeworn patina, and the four casters remain functional, allowing the bed to be moved with ease.

The elaborate scrollwork gives this bed a wonderfully decorative presence, while the open iron frame keeps it light and airy despite its generous scale.
