This elegant silverplate wine or champagne pourer was created by Mappin & Webb, crafted as a faithful re-edition of their iconic “Club Bottle Holder” design, originally introduced around 1880. The piece features a gracefully arched handle with an extendable tubular mechanism that allows for gentle, controlled tilting of a bottle held securely in a circular gallery.
The base is clearly stamped “Mappin & Webb” along with the model name, confirming its origin with the esteemed British silversmith. While inspired by a late 19th-century design, the clean, modern typography of the hallmark indicates that this is a later production, likely dating from the mid-to-late 20th century.
True to the original form, it is specifically shaped to fit wine or champagne bottles with broader bases and gently sloping shoulders. Taller Bordeaux bottles are not compatible with this design, reflecting the piece’s precision and intended use.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
