This medium-sized poêlon was made in Vallauris in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is formed from terracotta with a shallow circular bowl, a short pouring lip, and a tubular handle pierced through the center for suspension or ventilation. The exterior is finished in a soft yellow slip with faint traces of hand-applied green jaspe decoration. The interior is glazed in a clear, glossy coat over the natural red clay, creating a strong visual contrast between inside and out. Small firing spots and irregularities are present throughout the surface, typical of rural kiln work from this period. These vessels were used for preparing or reheating food over direct heat. Today, their modest proportions and utilitarian elegance make them sought after as display objects. This example is well preserved, with minor glaze losses and wear consistent with age and use. A functional form with quiet decorative presence, rooted in the culinary traditions of southern France.
