A mid-20th-century Florentine magazine rack, hand-painted and gilt in the traditional Arte Fiorentina style. The shaped body stands on four scrolled feet with an arched handle above, its surfaces decorated with diamond trellis panels in soft green and gold leaf, outlined with delicate incised lines and a small fleur-de-lis motif. The painted and gilded finish has worn and softened with time, revealing areas of gesso and wood that enhance its antique character and give it the charming patina typical of Florentine tole and carved wares. Well scaled for a living room, library, or bedroom, it tucks neatly beside a club chair or at the end of a settee, adding warmth through its muted gilding and soft green tones. Use it to corral current magazines, art books, or sheet music, or repurpose it in an entry for mail and catalogs. Its quietly aged surface pairs easily with Gustavian painted furniture, English country upholstery, or a restrained modern interior, lending texture and history without overpowering the room.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
