A French table lamp from the Mid-20th century, a work of popular art in the Brutalist style, handcrafted in the south of France. The lamp is made of hand-forged iron with a slender hammered stem rising from a tripod base whose legs end in curled feet. Just beneath the socket sits a scalloped copper platform with sharply cut points that suggest a stylized flower, adding a sculptural flourish to the vertical composition. Three small forged scrolls spring from the stem below this element, softening the geometry and giving the piece a lively, handcrafted character.
The surfaces display a deliberately varied patina, with the iron stem kept darker and more matte while the copper platform carries a warmer, richer tone. This contrast subtly emphasizes the structure and draws attention to the handcrafted character of the forged elements. The lamp is topped with a parchment shade whose natural veining becomes visible when illuminated, casting a warm amber glow that highlights the dark iron structure. The contrast between the rugged forged metal and the translucent shade creates a striking interplay of texture and light.
The lamp reflects the period’s appreciation for honest materials and expressive handwork. Its compact scale and sculptural ironwork introduce a rustic, raw note that feels both grounded and characterful. Placed on a bedside table, console, or reading nook, it casts a warm glow while the forged metal adds texture and depth to the surrounding space.
