This decorative French footstool, dating from the mid-20th century, combines a Louis XV-inspired wooden frame with bright, lustrous upholstery in the Louis XVI taste. Its generously padded seat is covered in a striped fabric alternating wide bands of golden satin with delicate floral motifs in pink, green and cream. The satin catches the light beautifully, while a thick cream braid neatly finishes the edges. The wooden frame features a scalloped apron with carved flowers and scrolling foliage, echoed by floral details on the short cabriole legs. Its warm brown wood has a glossy varnished finish that highlights the grain and decoration. Recently reupholstered, the seat is in excellent condition, while the frame shows a few marks and light wear consistent with age.
With its shimmering golden stripes, delicate floral decoration and graceful carved frame, this footstool has a distinctly romantic, quintessentially French character. It would look lovely beside an antique armchair in a bedroom or as a decorative accent in a cozy sitting room, bringing a touch of French elegance and warmth to the space.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
