This vintage ceramic lidded dish charms with a reclining rabbit modeled on the cover, its attentive pose and realistic eyes lending gentle character. Glazed in warm honey and soft cream with a subtle gradient and a neat wavy border, the rectangular form is a touch larger than the hand. This piece is a vintage vessel for pâté, with the animal finial on the lid traditionally indicating the contents at the table. Such pieces were a familiar fixture in French kitchens, from the 19th century through the late 20th century, combining practicality with charming decorative detail.
Equally decorative and useful, it makes a charming container in the kitchen for small essentials, or a sweet treasure box in a child’s room. Style it on open kitchen shelving alongside stoneware and natural wood for a touch of country charm, or place it on a bedside table, where its gentle presence adds warmth and a hint of whimsy to the room.
Light wear.
