Mid-20th Century French Louis XV-Style Dining Table with Shaped Apron - 86½"

This mid-20th-century wooden dining table is a sturdy, generously sized piece with a charming Louis XV-inspired design. Its long rectangular top has softly rounded corners and a warm, polished finish, with darker wood used for the outer border and transverse boards, creating a subtle geometric pattern that adds interest to the surface. A beautifully shaped apron runs along all four sides, with a succession of flowing curves and small pointed details. The four broad, solid cabriole legs have a powerful presence, their generous curves ending in gently scrolled feet. The wood shows light scratches, marks and wear consistent with age and use. The table originally had extension leaves, which are now missing, although the pull-out supports remain visible at either end.

Combining the robust construction of a traditional country table with the decorative curves of Louis XV furniture, this piece has a lovely, welcoming presence. It would make a beautiful centerpiece for a French country dining room or a spacious family kitchen, with plenty of room for everyday meals and relaxed gatherings. Alternatively, it could serve as a generous console table in a spacious entryway or living room, displaying lamps, books and favorite decorative objects. One practical consideration for dining use is its relatively low height, so it would need to be paired with suitably low chairs or raised slightly to accommodate standard dining chairs.
