This French painted metal serving tray dates from the mid-20th century and is made from sheet metal, with a rectangular form, integrated cutout handles and a finely pierced geometric gallery around the edge. The center is decorated with a generous bouquet of roses and other flowers in softly muted tones, probably applied as a transfer beneath a protective lacquer. The warm ochre ground has developed a delicate network of surface crazing, giving the finish attractive depth and age. The tray remains in very good vintage condition, with only a few small chips and minor traces of use.
A familiar feature of mid-century French interiors, painted toleware enjoyed a revival during this period, combining practical serving use with a graceful, slightly romantic decorative character. Today, this tray would work equally well in a living room for serving or display, or in a bathroom to gather rolled towels, perfumes or toiletries.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
