A petite French faience decorative plate with a soft ivory ground, hand-painted with a tender scene of Provençal elders gathered by the fire. The painterly brushwork in sienna, umber, and charcoal is brightened by rarer cobalt-blue highlights on the figures’ garments, all framed within a dark border that grounds the composition. The glaze has gently crackled with time, revealing subtle bubbles and specks from firing, details that lend texture, warmth, and a sense of quiet history.
Signed Géry at the lower edge, the piece bears the hallmark of a practiced hand, reflecting the work of Poterie Géry, founded in 1815 in Saint-Laurent-du-Pape (Ardèche, France) and celebrated for its classic Provençal slipware with lively rural themes. Perfect for bringing a note of French countryside charm to the home, this plate displays beautifully on a mantel, kitchen, or dining wall, or as part of a thoughtfully curated gallery. Its narrative design and soft patina make it an evocative conversation piece that complements both classic and contemporary interiors.
