Mid-20th-Century French Wrought-Iron Lantern w/ Colored Stained Glass - 26½" x 15¾"

This mid-20th-century wrought-iron lantern has a tall, architectural form framed by elaborate scrolling ironwork, with broad curled straps and stylized foliate motifs extending around the body. Its fitted with textured stained-glass panels, predominantly pale blue-clear glass punctuated by small amethyst diamond-shaped panes and deep red triangular accents. The dark iron has developed an attractive oxidized patina, with traces of rust and surface variation that give the piece a convincing sense of age and complement the jewel-like flashes of colored glass. A small hinged door opens at the front, although the single socket is suspended independently from the electrical cord rather than fixed directly to the lantern, allowing the bulb to be accessed from above as well.
