This adorable petite hand-blown glass duckling presents a rounded teardrop body of soft rose pink cased within clear glass, with an upturned open beak, applied eyes, and stylized wings executed in glossy jet black. A gently curved tail completes the playful silhouette. From Murano in Italy, renowned for its centuries-old glassmaking workshops, this mid-20th-century piece is in good condition, showing light surface wear to the base and a few tiny air bubbles from the making, with no chips or cracks observed.
Murano workshops popularized small animal figures after World War II, creating lively ornaments for an international market. The submerged color within clear glass reflects the sommerso technique, refined in the 1950s, when designers explored bold contrasts between transparent and opaque hues. This piece, in the manner of Archimede Seguso (1909–1999), one of Murano’s foremost glass masters known for his technical virtuosity and expressive forms, embodies the fusion of traditional furnace work, luminous color, and the streamlined elegance of mid-century design.
Charming in scale yet bright in presence, this piece suits a writing desk as a paperweight or a vanity tray for a soft note of color. Its whimsical form also makes it a lovely addition to a child’s bedroom or nursery, where its rosy hue and gentle curves lend warmth and playfulness. Set near a window or lamp to let the light bring its colors to life.
