This mid twentieth century oil on panel depicts a sunlit landscape near Eyguieres in Provence, as indicated by the inscription on the reverse reading “Ruines près d’Eyguieres.” The Alpilles massif rises in the distance beyond a gently unfolding foreground of rustic buildings and vegetation. The composition is rendered with confident, textured brushwork that captures the warmth and clarity of southern light across hills, trees, and open sky. In the sky, subtly gilded clouds catch the light, lending a delicate atmospheric shimmer.
