Mid-20th-Century Oil on Panel - Provençal Landscape by Guy Le Florentin - 19¼" x 29¼"

This charming mid-20th-century oil on panel by Guy Le Florentin (1907–1978) depicts a sunlit country lane in Provence, bordered by a low stone building with a green door, cypress and umbrella pine. The horizontal format opens the composition out beautifully, giving generous space to the broad blue sky and distant landscape, while the pale lane draws the eye through the scene. Loose, expressive brushwork and areas of thicker impasto give the surface plenty of movement, while the deep shadows beneath the trees and along the building convey the intensity of the Provençal sun. Signed G. Le Florentin in red at the lower right, the painting is presented in a simple period wood frame.

Guy Le Florentin, the professional name of Giuseppe Vittorio Lumbroso, spent his youth in Italy before arriving in Marseille in the 1920s. He became particularly known for his landscapes of Provence and Corsica, frequently capturing the architecture, vegetation and strong Mediterranean light of southern France. His energetic handling of paint, often worked with pronounced texture, is particularly well suited to this sun-drenched landscape.

With its warm ochres, fresh greens and soft blue sky, the painting would bring an easy note of Provence to a kitchen, bedroom, study or relaxed living room.
