Mid-20th Century Large French Copper Lantern - 30¼"

This atmospheric hanging lantern dates from the mid-20th century and recalls the elegance of early public and industrial lighting. Its distinctive tapered hexagonal body, suspended beneath a large arched hanging handle, gives the lantern a striking architectural silhouette.  Constructed from iron and copper with a beautifully weathered patina, the lantern is fitted with amber-tinted translucent panels, likely acrylic or resin, chosen for their durability while retaining the softly irregular appearance of aged glass. The warm honeyed tone of the panels contrasts beautifully with the dark oxidized metal frame and verdigris-toned copper dome, giving the piece an evocative presence even when unlit.  The lantern retains its wrought iron lower frame, fitted with small bent metal feet that allow it to stand securely on a surface, making it easy to display on a terrace or garden table.

An inscription reading Lanternes Claude Lefebvre – Tavers, France remains stamped into the dome’s hinged access panel, adding further character and authenticity.
