Mid-20th-Century Rectangular Cement Garden Planter - 39½"

This simple and elegant rectangular fiber-cement planter dates from the 1950s–60s. Its low, elongated form is defined by three horizontal recessed lines running along the sides, with softly rounded corners and a subtly raised rim giving the piece a clean, architectural profile. Made from lightweight, weather-resistant fiber cement for outdoor use, it is pierced for drainage and shows attractive signs of age and exposure, including surface weathering, light staining and warm reddish deposits to the interior. 

Its restrained design reflects the modernist approach to gardenware that became increasingly popular from the 1950s onward, favoring durable, lightweight materials and simple forms that allowed planting to take visual precedence. The generous length makes it particularly well suited to herbs, grasses or trailing plants, whether placed on a window sill, along a terrace wall or used to bring a strong horizontal line to a garden setting.
