This striking mid-20th-century ceramic saucepan is a fine example of the signature artistry of Robert Picault, one of Vallauris’s most celebrated post-war ceramists. Dating from the 1950s or 1960s, it features Picault’s distinctive geometric motifs, rendered here in a rich turquoise glaze accented with warm brown sunburst medallions and crisp white detailing. The result is a vibrant, Art Deco-inspired pattern that perfectly captures the optimism and modernist spirit of the era. Designed for both beauty and utility, the saucepan includes a curved handle for easy grip, a practical pouring spout, and a clean white interior that contrasts elegantly with the vivid exterior.
Picault (1919–2000) played a key role in the revival of Vallauris pottery after World War II, blending artisanal tradition with bold, modern design. His works remain highly sought after by collectors for their unique combination of functionality and visual impact.
Whether displayed on open shelves as a decorative accent or used as a serving vessel, this piece brings the elegance of mid-century French design into everyday life. Its compact size, vivid colors, and timeless craftsmanship make it an ideal addition to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
