A charming mid-century French concrete garden sculpture depicting a standing shorebird bird, dating to the 1950s. The form is simply modeled, with softly rounded contours and minimal detailing; its slightly forward-leaning posture, gently curved neck, and slender iron legs give it a naïve, folk-art character. The surface shows a beautifully weathered patina, with layers of pale paint now flaking to reveal the concrete beneath, creating a richly textured, chalky finish. Traces of the original color remain at the beak, on the wings and on the red-painted legs, adding contrast and a touch of personality. The base, with its worn grey paint and patches of moss and lichen, speaks to its long life outdoors. Minor losses are consistent with age and garden use, enhancing its authenticity.
Modest in scale and elegantly poised, this shorebird would sit beautifully among planting or on the terrace of a coastal home. Indoors, it brings a gentle, rustic coastal note, an evocative accent on a shelf or windowsill.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
