A sculptural mid-20th-century rope mirror set attributed to Audoux-Minet, comprising an oval wall mirror wrapped in thick natural cord and its accompanying knotted rope hanger. The mirror frame is tightly braided and articulated with short projecting spokes, evoking the form of a ship’s wheel, while the separate hanging element is worked with expressive maritime knots and loops. Together, the two pieces celebrate rope not merely as structure but as ornament, highlighting the designers’ mastery of humble materials.
Executed in a warm sand-colored fiber with a beautifully tactile surface, the rope shows gentle toning and light wear consistent with age, enhancing its organic character. The glass is neatly set within the coiled frame, and both elements remain in very good condition, with minor surface marks that speak to use rather than damage. The ensemble reflects Audoux-Minet’s distinctive approach, rooted in postwar French modernism, where artisanal techniques, nautical references, and natural materials were elevated into refined decorative forms.
Ideal for an entryway, bathroom, or bedroom in a coastal retreat, this set brings texture and quiet graphic strength to an interior. Use it above a console, dresser, or washstand, or let it punctuate a gallery wall as a sculptural focal point.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
