This wheel was most likely from a two or four wheeled domestic wagon for the transport over short distances of heavy objects such as building materials. The two central openings cushioned the shock during loading and movement.
Most likely from the alpine region of Savoy, France. 17th century, possibly earlier. Oak and wrought iron.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
