Murano Mouth-Blown Glass Lantern w/ Intricate Wire Cage - 19¼"

This vintage Venetian pendant lantern is made from mouth-blown amber glass enclosed within an intricate wire-wrapped metal cage. The glass has a tall, sculptural silhouette, with a boldly ribbed upper section, an elongated central body and a lobed lower finial. Its richly textured surface shows ripples and irregularities from the hand-forming process, while the cage follows the contours closely with twisted ribs, a diamond lattice across the center and leaf-like details at the top and base. The glass shows some clouding in places, which softens the amber tone and adds to the atmospheric quality, while the rust patina across the wire cage reinforces the lantern’s aged character. The base can be unscrewed to access the bulb, and the screws have been replaced to make this easier.

When illuminated, the combination of rippled glass and open metalwork creates distinctive patterns of light and shadow, giving the lantern a warm, atmospheric glow. Even when switched off, its sculptural form brings texture and character, working equally well in layered, bohemian interiors or as a focal point in a more pared-back contemporary space.
