A substantial Napoleon III overmantel mirror from the Second Empire, mid to late 19th century, richly expresses the period’s opulent revival of Louis XV taste. The arched giltwood frame is finely carved with scrolling acanthus and a central cartouche crest, bordered by delicate pearl beading. A pale almond green ground lends softness and depth, while raised motifs are heightened with gold leaf, revealing warm traces of red bole along the edges. The original silvered plate carries gentle foxing and light clouding that form a subtle romantic haze. Generous in scale and gracefully proportioned, it presents with quiet grandeur, its timeworn gilding and light wear to the high points adding depth and character.
This mirror lends a note of romance and quiet grandeur wherever it is placed, whether crowning a fireplace mantel, anchoring an entry hall, or sitting with effortless elegance on a console. Its softened green ground and time-kissed gilt glow beautifully, casting light with gentle atmospheric depth. Equally at home in traditional interiors or restrained contemporary settings, it brings a cultivated French spirit and a sense of enduring refinement to the room.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
