This early 20th-century bureau bookcase features a later painted finish in deep black with a vivid red interior. The upper section has two glazed doors with geometric bars and three adjustable shelves, while the lower part includes a slant-front desk supported by self-acting slides and two long drawers with patinated iron pulls. Raised on barley twist legs with a spiral stretcher and bun feet, it combines strong proportions with visual lightness. Condition is good and timeworn, with gentle wear to the painted surface and a slight warp to the fall. The vitrine locks properly, its left door secured by internal latch bolts and the case operated with a key. The desk retains its original key but no longer locks fully, as the wood has warped slightly over time, preventing complete contact.
Blending historic revival details such as the dentil cornice, twist legs, and bead moldings, this piece reflects early 20th-century taste for craftsmanship and contrast. The black exterior and deep red interior create striking visual drama, with the interior fitted with two small drawers and arched compartments that add structure and charm to the design. . Ideal for a study, library, or living room, it offers both practical storage and workspace, bringing bold character and refined warmth to classic or contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
