A handsome near pair of Régence period armchairs dating from the early 18th century, finely carved in beechwood with elegant caned backs and seats and graceful curved stretchers. The sculpted frames display the fluid lines characteristic of the Régence style, with beautifully shaped arms, scrolling details, and a rich aged patina that enhances their character.
The canework on the backs remains in very good condition. The cane seats show some loosening consistent with age and use, and are protected by recently redone leather cushions that provide both comfort and practicality. Sturdy and stable, the chairs are generously proportioned and exceptionally comfortable. The frames display the gentle wear and variations expected with age, adding to their authenticity and charm.
These armchairs would bring timeless French elegance to a living room, library, or study. Their warm tones and natural materials pair beautifully with antique woods, linen upholstery, and both classic and contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
